4 Popular Applications for Live Ball Valves

The PVC live ball valve is a multifunctional valve. They allow fluid flow in the “on” position and completely block fluid flow in the “off” position; just turn the handle 90 degrees! The word “ball” comes from the hemispherical shape inside the valve. This results in a gradual drop in line pressure and avoids damage to the inside of the valve due to fluid hitting flat surfaces. “True Union” is a term that means the valve has multiple parts. The center body of a true union ball valve can be unscrewed from the pipe and removed, eliminating the need to completely disassemble the pipe for routine valve maintenance and cleaning.

These valves have numerous practical applications, from fire safety to gas and oil transportation. Virtually any job that requires starting and stopping flow can be improved by adding a ball valve, a true joint design makes maintenance easy.

1. Irrigation system
One of the most common uses of PVC valves is in drip irrigation systems. Typically, these systems are placed over a large backyard garden and used to water a variety of different plants and vegetables. Without the valve, all the different produce would get the same amount of water. If irrigation is placed in rows, one for each plant or vegetable, a true union ball valve can be placed at the beginning of each row. This means that water flow can be cut off when certain rows do not need watering. This helps to customize and increase the amount of control you have over your irrigation system and garden.
2. Sprinklers and Hose Extensions
Many PVC projects connect the hose to a sprinkler or some kind of hose extension. These projects are great for maintaining lawns or making fun sprinklers for the kids, but can be inconvenient. Going to and from the faucet to turn the water on and off can be a hassle! One application for a true union ball valve is to place one between a PVC hose adapter and a PVC structure. This means you can keep the water on and just open and close the valve to let the water through the system.

3. Gas line
A lot of people don’t realize that the pvc ball valve can be used for gas, but as long as it’s rated WOG (water, oil, gas), there’s no problem! An example of this is the gas line of an outdoor barbecue pit or barbecue station. When building a project like this, making sure you can control the flow of gas is critical! To make sure you know how much gas is being used, you can use a real live ball valve and flow meter. This will allow you to control the airflow and ensure no gas leaks.

4. Drinking water system
Recently, housewives have been using PVC in drinking (drinking) plumbing systems due to its low price and insulating properties. If water is being supplied to the kitchen or bathroom through PVC pipes, it is important to be able to turn it off if necessary. An easy way to do this is to use a real joint ball valve where the water enters the room. If you’re doing renovations, this makes it easy to turn the water on and off in that particular area. The valve’s true union also makes cleaning and maintenance easy.
