Valve Definition Terminology

1. Valve

a moving component of an integrated mechanical device used to regulate media flow in pipes.

2. A gate valve (also known as a sliding valve).

The valve stem propels the gate, which opens and closes, up and down along the valve seat (sealing surface).

3. Globe, globe valve

The valve stem propels the opening and closing (disc) valve, which travels up and down along the axis of the valve seat (sealing surface).

4. Throttle switch

a valve that modifies flow and pressure by altering the channel’s cross-sectional area through the opening and closing component (disc).

5. Ball valve

a ball valve that is an on-off valve and revolves along a curve parallel to the passage.

6. Butterfly valve

opens and closes a valve that spins around a fixed axis (a “butterfly” valve).

7. Diaphragm valve (diaphragm valve)

To isolate the action mechanism from the medium, the opening and closing type (diaphragm type) moves up and down along the axis of the valve stem.

8. A cock or plug valve

a cock valve that can be turned on and off.

9. (Check valve, check valve)

The open-close type (disc) makes use of the medium’s force to automatically stop the medium from flowing in the opposite direction.

10. Safety valve (sometimes called a pressure relief valve or safety valve)

11. Pressure lowering device

The pressure of the medium is reduced by throttling the opening and closing sections (disc), and the pressure behind the valve is automatically maintained within a predetermined range by the direct action of the pressure behind the valve.

12. Steam trap

valve that prevents steam from escaping while automatically draining condensate.

13. Drain valve

valves used in pressure vessels and boilers for the sewage discharge.

14. Low pressure switch

various valves with PN1.6MPa nominal pressure.

15. A valve for medium pressure

Various valves with nominal pressure PN≥2.0～PN＜10.0MPa.

16. High-pressure switch

various valves with PN10.0MPa nominal pressure.

17. A valve for very high pressure

various valves with PN 100.0 MPa nominal pressure.

18. High-temperature switch

used for a range of valves with a medium temperature of more than 450°C.

19. A sub-zero valve (a cryogenic valve)

various valves for medium temperature range of -40 to -100 degrees Celsius.

20. Cryogenic valve

Suitable for medium temperature valves of all types with a temperature range of -100°C.
