Chapter 1 - What is a ball valve?
A PVC or polyvinyl chloride ball valve is a plastic on-off valve with a swivel ball with a hole that stops fluid flow by turning the ball a quarter turn. They are extremely durable, cost-effective and can be used to control the flow of water, air, corrosive chemicals, acids and bases. PVC ball valves have excellent low temperature and pressure resistance, but low mechanical strength. Like all ball valves, PVC ball valves stop flow by rotating the ball 90°.

The core of the PVC ball valve is a rotating ball, called a rotating ball. The stem at the top of the ball is the mechanism that turns the ball, which can be done manually or automatically, depending on the design of the valve. The valve opens when the handle is parallel to the pipe and closes when the handle is perpendicular to the pipe.

PVC ball valves are made of non-flammable plastic and can withstand temperatures from -14°C to -140°C. They serve many of the same purposes as traditional ball valves, yet are lightweight, compact, easy to install, and capable of adapting to a wide range of applications.

Chapter 2 - Types of PVC Ball Valves
Different types of PVC ball valves are designed to meet specific applications. They are categorized by number of ports, seat type, body assembly, ball passages and bore size. The deciding factor in choosing the type of ball valve is the application, which is determined by pressure, size, temperature, number of ports required, end fittings and configuration.

PVC ball valves are made from vinyl, a thermoplastic material that changes physical properties when heated or cooled. Like all thermoplastics, PVC is an environmentally friendly plastic that can be melted and reshaped many times. In addition to being used in the manufacture of PVC ball valves, PVC is also widely used in the production of pipes.

automatic valve
Automatic PVC ball valve can be two-way or three-way. They have a pneumatic or electric actuator that can be manually controlled with a remote control or have a spring mechanism. Self-actuated PVC ball valves are designed to trigger the ball on the valve to open or close to release or stop the flow of media and can be used for a wide variety of media from water to gas and oil.

Check the valve
PVC ball check valves are used where back flow can damage the system or cause contamination of the filtration and pumping system. They are an automatic ball valve that relieves pressure in the system. PVC check valves are trunnions that close by pressure when the pressure reaches a certain level. They are used in chemical processing, water treatment and chemical cooling processes. Unlike typical PVC valves, check valves have no stem or handle and are fairly simple in construction.

Flanged PVC Ball Valve
The unique feature of the flanged PVC ball valve is its connection method, that is, the flange. They have high flow because they are usually full bore. Flanged PVC ball valves are available with two, three or four ports, are lightweight and easy to install. The thickness of the flange varies depending on the applied pressure. PVC flanged ball valves use adhesive glue or bolts with gaskets.

Floating PVC Ball Valve
With a floating PVC ball valve, the ball is suspended in the fluid and held in place by a compressed valve seat. The shaft is attached to the top of the ball, and a quarter turn of the handle provides smooth positioning from open to closed. As the ball turns, it is pressed against its seat, stopping the flow. The ball floats in the valve body, hence the name of the valve.

Full Bore PVC Ball Valve
For full bore PVC ball valves, the opening in the ball matches the diameter of the pipe. Because the hole in the valve is the same size as the pipe, when the valve is open, the flow of the medium is unrestricted and there is no pressure drop of any kind. Full bore PVC ball valves are considered recovery valves for systems requiring low pressure drop and high flow coefficients.

Manually Operated Valve
Among various types of PVC ball valves, manual operation is the simplest and most convenient to use. Open the two-way PVC ball valve by moving the handle parallel to the pipe. To close the valve, move the handle perpendicular to the pipe. Opening or closing the valve requires a quarter turn of the handle in either direction.
